As recruiters, we all know that the best CVs are short and concise with bullet points highlighting a candidate’s core strengths and achievements. So why is it that when it comes to preparing our own, we forget this and lose all sense of logic?

Our Top 11 Tips will hopefully keep you on the straight and narrow when it comes to preparing your own CV.


1. Keep it short. 2 to 3 pages is ideal and please, no photos!
2. Don’t forget your contact details – home address, email and mobile number.
3. List your academics. We don’t really need to know what grade you achieved in woodwwork.
4. Use bullet points to highlight your experiences under each Job.
5. List employers’ names, dates of employment and job titles.
6. List your clients under each job.
7. List the type of positions you filled under each job.
8. List your billings, good or bad. You know we're going to ask!
9. Let us know what you earn in basic, benefits and bonuses.
10. List your interests and hobbies.
11. Send your CV by email – it speeds up administration.
